Description:
The Bayazit Mosque is located in the center of the city of Didymoteicho. It is one of the most imposing Muslim mosques in Greece, inaugurated in March 1420. It covers an area of almost one hectare and consists of a square prayer hall and a single minare in the west corner. The wooden roof of the monument was an extremely massive pyramidal structure, which was covered with lead and had a domed wooden false ceiling inside, making it one of the most important wooden historical monuments in the world. The project "Restoration of Churches Bagyazet" refers to the total restoration of the monument with its minaret (structural and architectural) in the last phase before the fire (beginning of the 20th century) and mainly to the reconstruction of the whole of its ornate roof (wooden carrier and its capping), with a criterion the protection of the monument Msand the recognition of its structural history.
